Daily Rituals printable quote and bookmark

daily-rituals-quoteIt’s about time for a check in to see how you’re liking the Lars Book of the month. We’re reading Daily Rituals: How Artist’s Work by Mason Currey this month. Have you picked up a copy? As someone who owns their own company and whose success depends on how I manage my time, I’m intrigued by famously successful artists, scientists and others managed their schedules to produce some of the world’s greatest works and innovations. PRINTABLE-BOOKMARKS

Monica Lynch is this month’s featured illustrator. She created this beautiful quote that you can download and print off from the book along with a printable bookmark. Get the full downloads below! And stay tuned for a full discussion when we announce the next book at the beginning of next month.

DIY upcycled paper flower chandelier

paper-flower-chandelierDuring the summer I’m outside as much as possible, whether I’m weeding my garden or or sitting outside working on my laptop. I can’t let those precious sunrays go to waste! In those moments when you can’t be outside, why not bring the outdoors in with a garden chandelier?! Specifically, a paper flower upcycled chandelier fit for your home?! I partnered with method to repurpose a dirty old chandelier that I found at a thrift store and gave it new life with a good cleaning and hundreds of paper leaves. It’s so easy to turn a not so attractive lighting fixture into a beautiful home decor piece. Let me show you how.

DIY Polish chandelier planter

ecoscraps-diy-planter-house-lars-built-2PAJAKI DETAIL 2Have we got a spring tutorial for you. It’s inspired by my rather new obsession with gardening and definitely old obsession with plants and flowers. A Polish chandelier planter! Otherwise known as pajaki (Polish for “spiders of straw”), this traditionally decorative piece combines the best of both worlds: pretty decor with a practical purpose.

Admittedly, I’ve gone completely bonkers with spring planting this year so adding another one to the mix is only natural. And since I’m completely smitten with my new obsession, I’ve become more and more familiar with how to garden and what supplies are best for the earth. I’m so so thrilled/relieved/satisfied to come across a product that I believe in: Ecoscraps. Ecoscraps is an all natural gardening product company that takes old, wasted food scraps from stores and restaurants and recycles them into organic and sustainable lawn products (see the full process here). Their mission is to grow gardens, not landfills as landfills, which is important when you consider that 40% of the food produced in the US goes wasted. They informed me that that is enough to fill the Rose Bowl every day. It sits in landfills producing methane, which is 20X more harmful than CO2. Read on →

New packaging for Lars

thanks a bunch lars cards amidst blooms

You know when you discover a shop or product and you think “Finally! Something I no longer have to search for!” and you tuck it away in your magical trove of places you love? That’s how I feel about MOO. I’ve heard about MOO and always been impressed when I receive a business card from MOO, but now having had the full experience, I’m a convert. And not because they’re paying me to say this. I’d shout them from the rooftops regardless.

If you are unfamiliar, is an online print shop that specializes in well-designed products like business cards, postcards, stickers, etc. They even do gold foil and letterpress. Sigh. All the paper is so lovely to feel which for this paper lover, is a MUST!

Mother’s day floral cake topper

Mother's Day cake topper flower-garden-cake-topper

I get my love of flowers from my mama. I grew up with her teaching me how to identify each of the various types, dressing in all floral dresses (product of the 80s I suppose 🙂 and watching The Secret Garden on repeat. Just last week when she was up here visiting, we went nursery hopping and she helped me pick out flowers for my new flower planters (and watching The Secret Garden again, of course).

This Mother’s Day, I partnered up with Hallmark Signature to select a card that reminded me of my mother. I just had to go with a bright and colorful floral number, clearly. We were so inspired by the shapes, dimensions and colors that we thought we had to add it to our celebratory festivities. Such an extraordinary mom called for no ordinary card and no ordinary cake. We made her this flower garden inspired cake topper to coordinate with the pretty embellishments of the card. Get the template and instructions below!
