DIY Ice cream cone vases

This is one of my favorites for Oh Happy day! It combines four of my favorite things: ice cream + flowers +  bright colors + stripes. Too much goodness. The photoshoot with Hilda was one of the craziest yet as we were shooting a few projects and I was delayed because I couldn’t find helium anywhere in town for the balloon project, then the ATM ate my card. Boo! I ended up having to cab it home, which I never ever do here in Copenhagen; you might as well give them your first born for the price they charge you. Needless to say, Hilda is meget meget (so, so) patient.*
What you can’t really tell about my hair right now is that it’s orange. If I were to hold it straight up in the air it’d look like candy corn with the white from the first dye job, the orange from the most recent, and my roots coming in. Sick. I guess it’d be more appropriate if it were October. TMI, sorry.

Anywhoo, check out the full DIY at Oh Happy Day.

*Danes love repeating words for emphasis. I find myself faking Danish just by repeating a few select phrases in a really deep, gutteral voice and they seem to love it.

Valentine’s Heart Attack Take 3

Clearly, I can’t get enough of the sendable heart attacks. I sent a few heart attacks to people around town, but I needed to send one to my sister, Caitlin, so I tried a different version this year. Ideally there’d be enough hearts to swim in them. You know like Duck Tales how they swim in money?
Materials: box, scissors, hearts and lots of them. I even made some pop-up hearts for the sides.

These are great for loved ones living far away or even in town. Who doesn’t love getting snail mail?

Check out last year’s sendable heart attack box here and a heart attack for the door here.

23rd day of Christmas crafts: advent candle

During the holiday season in Denmark every store carries advent candles. We currently have one single advent candle for every day leading up to Christmas as well as a set of 24 candles, one marked for each day. I’ve never seen them in the states so I thought I’d make my own. I realize it’s a little late in the advent game, but a thought for next year.
You will need a plain-o candle, a paint pen, and ruler. I used centimeters to fit the size of my candle. A 9 1/2″ candle perfectly fits 24 centimeters and therefore 24 days. Happy adventing!
I have so many projects still that I want to make, but alas, not enough days anymore. I will have a special edition Christmas Eve version tomorrow. Muhaha.

22nd day of Christmas crafts: handpainted adornments

I saw these bows on some beautiful wrapping and decided to try it out on some of the gift bags I did for Oh Happy Day. I love the trompe l’oeil effect it creates. You could do a bunch of bows at the same time for lots of gifts.

Only two more days left of Christmas crafts…we can do it, we can do it, we can do it.

21st day of Christmas crafts: santa party hat

how to photograph yourself in the mirror? not in focus!
Really great view of the painted-over 3 layers of wallpaper.
Still not centered but at least remembered to smile…
At the bank the other day, the teller was wearing a cute tiny santa hat. It was so presh I’ve been thinking about it ever since and wanting to recreate it. The one I did today is still a tad too big, but I still like it. These days there’s only a small window to take pictures in natural “daylight” (grey skies) from 10am-2pm and since I was out selling my Language of Flower items at a market, I had to race home to an already sunsetted sun. This is me getting desperate in our hallway mirror. How do you take pictures of yourself?!?! On the bright side, today is the shortest day of the year, which means it can only get better. Hallelujah!

I used Jordan’s party hat template and instructions to make this santa hat and then stuck in a bobby pin. I thought they’d be great for a Christmas party or like the bank teller, at work.
