Danish Design giveaway: #1 (CLOSED)

In order to give a proper good-bye to Denmark (in case you missed it, we’re moving to America in two weeks!) and to thank you dear readers for reading this blog, I have some magical things lined up for you for the month of December. First, how about some giveaways?! I thought it would be nice to give away some wonderful home products by all Danish designers. OOOOO, can you take it?

I feel lucky to have lived in a country where design is second nature. I’ve learned that the Danes really value their homes and take pride in the things that occupy them. When you are invited into someone’s home it is a big deal and they treat you very well. So, in honor of beautiful Danish design and the people that make it, I’ll be having 4 giveaways during December. Denmark celebrates the advent season, in particular each advent Sunday, so I thought it was most appropriate to select a winner each advent Sunday. The first round starts today and the winner will be selected this Sunday, December 2nd.

I have some wonderful companies with awesome products lined up. Drum roll please…this week’s giveaway is sponsored by some of my very favorites Ferm Living, At Hermans, Herb Lester, and Royal Copenhagen. A few of the items will be repeated each week but the rest will be unique.

1. Copenhagen poster &
2. wooden star ornament by Ferm Living
3. map of Copenhagen (ok, not a Danish designer, but it fits well, non?) by illustrator Matt Chase for Herb Lester (they have lovely maps of other cities too!)
4. Royal Copenhagen Elements thermal mug in coral
5. Beautiful wooden tray by Jørgen Høj from one of my fave shops, At Hermans (and they ship world wide!)

That’s over a $250 value!

TO ENTER! Head on over to Facebook and like The House That Lars Built page then tell me in a comment below what you love about Danish design. If you’ve already liked the FB page, score! But bonus points if you share the giveaway! Also, bonus points if you share in other places too like Twitter, Pinterest or your blog. Please leave your contact info so I can contact you to let you know you’ve won!

Winner will be selected Sunday, December 2nd so you have until Saturday, December 1st to enter.

Design + flowers + Life + my shop + paper / Monday, 19 Nov 2012

Limited Edition!

If you’ve been wondering why things have been a bit spotty on the blog recently it’s because I’ve been on overload producing a few batches of these paper flower gift toppers. Here’s the story: I was approached by Terrain (a sister company of Urban Outfitters) a few months back to develop some limited edition gift topper flowers as well as my 2013 Language of Flowers calendar. Several hundred handmade paper flowers later they are now available for purchase and I’m so pleased to finally spill the beans! Now, I had high hopes (and was a bit delusional) that I could do it all on my on. Readers, I was insane. There are some times in life where you need a bit of help and I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m just so thankful for the help of my assistants Karen who has gone above and beyond, also Josh, my sister-in-law who came in on some Saturdays to help cut, and Paul, who realized that his gift in life is not cutting flowers but came to help anyway! Thank you thank you thank you! You can choose between a poppy, tulip, and ranunculus.

For now, you can order them on Terrain’s website. I will be releasing them on my Etsy shop in early 2013 (2013?! wha?!?!)

dum, da da dum!!!!

It’s here! The brand new 2013 calendar is finally available in the Etsy shop.

For the 2013 calendar, I was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s Thumbelina. Living in Copenhagen, Denmark, Andersen’s fairytales are still very prevalent and mentioned. After reading the fairy tale in the land it was written, the story took on a new life and became a bit more real. You know that I love the idea of playing with scale (everything oversized!) so Thumbelina’s thumb size was a perfect image to recreate. I became entranced by the image of the butterflies that whisked the main character, Maia, away by her white sash as she escaped her arranged marriage to the ugly mole. For the calendar, I imagined a bouquet of butterflies clumped in lovely colors.

The calendar is 11×17″ ready for a frame or pinned to a wall. It’s a beautiful giclee print on cotton paper. The colors are super lush. Wait until you see it in person! Agh! Order the Thumbelina calendar here. The first batch come in with a slight overlap of printing. those are being sold for 1/2 price and you can find them here.

AND, the Language of Flowers calendar is back by popular demand. Order it here.
