Poppy fields of Utah (with map and video!)

IMG_4665

We kicked off our new YouTube channel with the 31 Day Flower Drawing Challenge and starting today we’ll be bringing you new videos every Thursday. Ye haw! For this first one, I wanted to do something a bit more casual, something where it’s just you and me going on adventures. Something where I can just eat a PBJ in front of you and we’re still friends (doesn’t that sound enticing!?). I’m calling these Lars Adventures and for this first one we’re hitting the trails and looking for the mysterious poppy fields of Alpine, Utah.

I’ve heard about these poppy fields for a few years now, but no one had ever been able to tell me how to get there or when it was. We got a more solid lead that the poppies were in fact in bloom and were on their way out so now was our chance. We got some vague directions and headed out. Read on →

Mother’s Day flower bouquet corsage

mother's day bouquet corsage mother's day bouquet corsage

In honor of celebrating life—mother’s day, prom, weddings, May Fourth, Cinco-De- Mayo, spring, your grandmother, your great-grandmother, your great-great aunt and your greatest special occasion coming up—we have created a beyond fun little corsage. Only it isn’t just any corsage; it is a teensy little mini bouquet in the form of a corsage. Because really, isn’t everything 100 times cuter in teensy little mini form?

And you can make this cutest corsage yourself, with any flowers from your garden or a nearby neighbor’s garden, by following the instructions below. Treat your mom, your date, or you know what? Treat yourself. Read on →

Introducing…31 Day Flower Drawing Challenge

31 Day Flower Drawing Challenge

After completing this Daily Drawing Challenge in the month of March, we got so excited to draw that we couldn’t stop! We wanted to test out if April Showers really meant May Flowers, so we made it happen with a 31 Day Flower Drawing Challenge as a part of our NEW YouTube channel! Every day for the month of May we will be showcasing a different flower and teach how to draw it. Don’t worry, it’s not necessarily for the experienced artist. It’s for all levels! Plus, you’ll learn a bit more about 31 different favorite and some lesser known flowers. Plus, if you like a good pun, consider this your new favorite place. We went wild with the puns!

So! Please, watch the promo video above, subscribe to our new channel, join us for the next 31 days, and tag your drawings with #LarsFlowerChallenge

Snapdragon to it 🙂

Mother’s Day floral recipe

House Lars Built Dinnerware

When I need gorgeous florals I turn to floral magician Ashley Beyer of Tinge Floral. Her style is natural and romantic and captures everything I love about flowers. Ashely created the gorgeous arrangements of flowers for my Twig NY dinnerware photoshoot and she is showing us today how to recreate the arrangement she did for the Mother’s day brunch (see the full post here). We’re doing it in the style of one of my favorite books, The Flower Recipe Book.

Kiwi mint lime sorbet float

In honor of National Ice Cream Month here in the states, I’m doing a series of delicious, healthy sorbets with Kandyce Caroll of Ramblin Rose Cafe. Last week we featured a strawberry rose sorbet and this week it’s a kiwi mint sorbet. Guys, this one is delicious. You will want to pin/bookmark/get your typewriter out and transcribe it.
