This week

I announced on Instagram this week a delicious piece of news…I’m getting a studio space! Squeals! Hoorahs! Me, along with 9 other creatives, are opening up Hinterland Studio, a permanent space for us to work, shoot, hold events and classes here in Utah Valley. We want to provided a place for creative things to happen in the community. We are beyond thrilled to give a quick sneak peek as it’s been in the works for months and it’s finally coming to fruition. We’ll be showing some before pictures of the space, but for now, suffice it to say that it needs A LOT OF work. You see, it’s an old farmer’s co-op and former factory and it’s been vacant for awhile. Think inches of dust, holes in the wooden planks, etc. I’ll be giving updates about the space as we make progress on it but we’re hoping to have it ready soonish.

AND, if you’re a home improvement or a home decor company and would like to partner on bringing it to life, please contact me! It has so much potential and we’d love to work with you! We’re looking for furniture, decor, paint, the usual home improvement stuff that magical makes things look amazing. Email me at thehousethatlarsbuilt@gmail.com. Let’s make this happen!

This week on Lars:
Marie Antoinette Halloween costume
2 Frida Kahlo costumes
Print off your Halloween party invitation here

Links of note:
The cutest tour of Reese Witherspoon’s house (and an awesome back flip!)
It’s Raining Men (period drama style)
I’d love to add these children’s classics to my collection
If you’re local, Provo fashion week is this week (one of my intern’s is showing! Can’t wait to go!)

Our new home & a more somber post

Warning: Not my usually sunny self post.

Guys, I’m rarely sick, but here I am feeling like pooh. Bleh. I’m sure you really want to hear complaints to brighten up your day so I’ll keep it to a minimum. It started out as what I thought was food poisoning and now it’s a cold. Thankfully, I work from home so I don’t even have to pretend to smile at people. This, combined with the passing of a friend last week and funeral services on Monday, has reminded me of the frailties of mortality. It’s one of those passings that I don’t quite understand and I’m not sure I ever will.  I won’t get too much into it right here right now. I just hope that he’s found peace.

Anywhoo, I had a craft project planned for today but considering I couldn’t really get off my can much, I’m going to show you a bit of our new hood according to my Instagram photos instead. One of our favorite things to do is go house looking (spying really) and we’ve found some really darling charmers and wonderful 60s gems. Not to say they are all like that because, let’s be honest, most are boring, beige, and brick, but some stand out (like the four above).

We went on a little adventure to Utah Lake on Sunday and the views are spectacular! The lake is in the process of thawing so one half is frozen while the other half is on vanguard. Top that off with some snowy mountains surrounding the valley and it’s pretty picturesque.

Utah locals, where else would you suggest exploring in the area? I’d love your ideas!

“Life elevated”

Whoa! It’s been awhile, friends. Thanks for your patience as we’ve been in a rather constant succession of change and/or moving and/or holidays since way before leaving Copenhagen. LIFE HAS BEEN NUTS! But, I’m sure I’m not the only one. Life is always nuts, am I right? I am totally embarrassed to say that I’m WAY behind on some deadlines and, clearly, blogging. Clients, you know who you are. Forgive me! I’m not normally so delinquent. It’ll be worth it, I promise!

So, we’ve moved into our new place in Provo, UT and we love it! Three of our Copenhagen apartment could fit into this monstrosity (really, it’s pretty normal size). AND, we have a washer, dryer, dishwasher, carpet…needless to say, I’ve been doing laundry just for the fun of it. Because I can! And because we haven’t had those conveniences in awhile so it’s still novel to me. Please remind me in 2 years that laundry is fun if I forget that 1st world detail.

This picture above is my sister as we took our last walk by the beach in San Clemente, CA before we packed our car to move up here. Our timing was funny. She’s been living in UT for the past 7 years and recently decided to move back home at the same time we moved up here. So, as we unpacked our small belongings in our new place, we then packed up her abundance of treasures to set back to CA. Boo hoo. We had so many plans together. We were going to make creative mischief! Alas, plans change and as Walt Disney says, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we are curious, and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” I’m excited for her in her new choice. I’m really excited about our new change too. There have been a number of what I believe are signs that make us feel like this is right.

“Life elevated”. That’s what the Utah license plate claims. And we can totally feel it on with the cracked, dry hands and constant headaches. BUT, I’m also certain that 2013 will be a year of “life elevated”. Raising the bar. Choosing to make it a good year. How about it?! Let’s make it a good year! I have some great things planned for the year and lots of announcements to make so stay tuned!

Also, UT readers…I’m thinking of doing a meet-up of sorts. Maybe a workshop or clothes exchange or something…what do you think?

Sister Magazine

A couple of months ago Thea from Sister Magazine and Ashley of Chasing Heartbeats flew up from Berlin for a story for their newly released December issue. I was absolutely honored to be asked to be featured, but I was even more stoked for the actual shoot because I’ve really grown to love these girls. They are classy, smart, and clever. Sister Magazine is a magazine “for the digital lady” and the magazine is just like they are. I’d say it’s the perfect publication for the renaissance woman. This particular story featured 5 white blouses that the Neubauer sisters made each in a different technique: smocked, painted,  cross-stitched, printed, embroidered and I was supposed to model them. Let’s just say, I needed a lot of coaching, but these two were up to the challenge.
This is one of my favorites…ha! I’ve never felt so patriotic for my temporary home. Each and ever bead on this blouse and skirt was hand cut by Thea’s mom. Nuts.
The studio:
Ok, this next one is my absolute favorite…eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!
Wait for it…
Boom.

Thanks Thea and Ashley for such a fun day! Now, run on over to Sister Mag to check out their best issue yet.
