Valentine’s Day is creeping up so you know that I’m going to exploit it with some as many crafts as I can muster over the next few weeks. Though I’m all for a holiday that promotes love, I’m a little less into the idea of the mushy and romantic parts and more into showing people that you care. In fact, wouldn’t it be helpful to give the world one big giant Valentine? “Wait…note to self…how to make a giant Valentine to give to the world…”
I decided on a friendly, non-mushy flower, the daffodil (which I showed how to make last week–click here) and turned it into a wreath that if you wanted, could also be used as a headpiece crown. Because, uh, who DOESN’T go around on Valentine’s with a paper flower daffodil crown?
Well, easy is the name of the game for these past few Valentine’s ideas and this one is SO simple. It’s perfect for last minute gifty ideas. These glitter heart boxes are a breeze and you probably have everything you already need. Just print off the template and get going!
You will need: Glitter paper (here’s a suggestion), scissors, template, glue gun or glue stick or double sided stick tape
Step 1: Print off your template onto cardstock paper.
Step 2: Cut out template.
Step 3: Trace template onto the backside of your glitter paper.
Step 4: Cut out lines on glitter paper.
Step 5: Fold the bottom portion of the box (indicated on the template with dotted lines).
Step 6: Fold over the tab.
Step 7: Glue the tab to the other side of the box.
Step 8: Gold the bottom tabs up so they are secure.
Step 9: Attach the heart pieces together.
Step 10: Insert CANDY!! Chocolate or conversation hearts preferred (am I right?!)
I’m always so late in actually decorating for my own house for the holidays and this Valentine’s day is no exception. Seeing as how we don’t really even own furniture at this point except for an owl side table–it’s amazing–anything can help our decorating situation. I don’t really like to do obvious colors for Valentine’s day and so I thought I’d do a paper topiary. If I had my way, our place would be one giant topiary. I love these guys (and I’ve done one before. Check it out here.)
Materials: tacky tinsel topiary from Michaels (good for the frame only), gold spray paint, clay pot, shades of green paper, moss, glue gun, scissors
Step 1: Take our tacky topiary and unwrap the base.
Step 2: Take off the tinsel. It’s super easy. It’s just wrapped around the wire stand.
Step 3: With wire cutters or plant cutters, cut off the pegs.
Step 4: Draw a leaf shape onto your paper. Step 5: Cut out and repeat many times. I cut out several sizes to give it a variety. Step 6: Fold slightly down the center. Step 7: Glue gun one leaf onto the wire frame. Step 8: Glue another leaf going the opposite way. Step 9: Repeat along all the lines of the frame so that the frame is covered.
Step 10: Spray the wire gold. The gold acts as a neutral color. Step 11: Glue gun moss to the base of the topiary and stuff it into the cracks too.
Voila! Just a cute little topiary guy ready for some Valentine’s lovin.
A huge thank you to Michèle for loaning out her table for a few minutes and for just generally being an awesome person!
