We’re finishing up our Halloween series with Bath and Body Works (you can see the first one here and the second one here) with 2 showstopper costumes made from everyday materials. We were inspired by Tahitian Island Dream to create a mermaid and Warm Vanilla Sugar to create a gilded mummy. By “showstopper” we mean that these ones will take a bit more time, but the results are so so worth it, no?! We had every intention of going the traditional fabric/sea shell route, but after seeing how much fun it was to create the unicorn, hippies, and Marie Antoinette costumes, I wanted to get my hands on some non-traditional items again. Can you guess what we made the mermaid costume out of?

As you know, paper is my medium of choice, so for today’s installment of costumes inspired by Bath and Body Works fragrance mists, we are creating 2 costumes made entirely from paper and I LOVE how they turned out. If I had a bazillion costume parties to dress for, I’d be every single costume we create but these one are closer to the top of the list. First, we created an oversized origami crane inspired by their Japanese Cherry Blossom fragrance as well as a bouquet of flowers costume inspired by their Hello Beautiful and Sweet Pea fragrances.

DIY unicorn costume

I think about what I’m going to wear for Halloween nearly every single day of the year. Sadly, I’m not joking. BUT, when it comes down to actually carrying out my plans, I’m usually so burned out that I end up doing something quick and easy if I do anything at all. Well, this Halloween season, we’ve teamed up with Bath and Body Works over the next three weeks to create 7 costumes inspired by their large variety of sweet smelling fragrance mists. Today we’re sharing 3 last minute costumes you can make from your craft closets, which is good for all of you who don’t want to put that much time or money into your costumes. Think tissue paper, paper plates, and drinking straws, cardboard, balloons, paint, batting. All cheap and easy yet have so much impact. In fact, I wore the unicorn costume to my first costume of the season and the kids loved it! Also on the list: hippies…diy-hippy-costume-from-craft-closet-34…and an all pink Marie Antoinette.DIY Marie Antoinette Halloween costume Learn how to make the costumes and see what we were inspired by.

We hope you enjoyed our triplets costume journey with their mom, Ali Hynek. There’s nothing I love more than being around squishy babies and the fact that there were three of them and well-behaved ones at that? I was over the moon. Here’s a look back at all 10 costumes (you can get the celebrity costumes here, the flower costumes here, and the simple costumes here ) and now a little DIY video that we made with stop motion artist, Trisha Zemp.

Oscar Tribute baby costumes

The last of the adorable triplet costumes is up (see the others here and here) and these ones are my favorite. Babies dressed as little adults is scientifically proven to be the cutest thing in the world. First, up, we’ve got our Oscar tribute, paying homage to those who passed on this year including David Bowie, Gene Wilder, and Prince.

diy costume for kidsAs you are well aware by now, I love everything about costumes and I certainly don’t believe in wearing them just for Halloween either (exhibit A). But, social norms say that Halloween is the only appropriate time of the year to really go at it so we are going nuts this year. We teamed up with Ali Hynek who gave birth 6 months ago to the most beautiful and cuddle-worthy triplets of all time, Penelope, Ethan, and Alejandra (Sweet Pea as they are affectionately known on her Instagram feed). We spent two glorious days shooting these sweet peas and I couldn’t have been more in heaven (give me all the cuddles!!!!!). We’ve got three batches of costumes starting with this first one: quick and easy costumes for you baby. And check out 3 flower costumes for baby and 3 celebrity costumes ideas here

Peanut butter pretzel candies

How was your Halloween?! I have a genuine love-hate relationship with Halloween. On the one hand, cute costumes are right up my alley, I adore any opportunity to hang out with old friends and party, and I barely need any excuse to hit the kitchen and bake, but I totally welcome one. The slightly embarrassing flipside of this is that I am a total wuss when it comes to anything scary, spooky or even slightly creepy.

Costumes from Jimmy Fallon

You can never have too much of Jimmy, am I right?! We had a ball brainstorming these costumes from The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and today we’re finishing up with the last of the them including some of my favorite skits, namely the time when Nicole Kidman revealed that she had had a crush on Jimmy. Have you seen it? It’s painfully awkward and hilarious. I’ve watched it MANY times and probably 5 more times since we started with this costume. Don’t worry, I included it below for those of you looking for a good laugh.  Other costumes include Hashtag the Dancing Panda, and a Thank You Note. I also included this week’s Roots costumes and the characters from the skit, EwJIMMY-FALLONNICOLE-KIDMAN-ON-JIMMY-FALLONJIMMY-FALLON-THANK-YOU-NOTES

Deciding on costumes from The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon was easy squeezy (see here for our Jimmy and the Roots costumes!)  and, of course, Sarah and mir.i.am (aka Jimmy Fallon and will.i.am) had to make their debut in the form of children’s costumes. These two were so much fun! Let’s just say, if you haven’t taken a trip to Claire’s since you were 13, now is your chance!

THE-ROOTS-AND-JIMMY-FALLON-HALLOWEEN-COSTUME

A few weeks ago I had a dream that I was Jimmy Fallon’s intern on The Tonight Show and I thought it would be a good idea to spend work hours making a stop motion video about it (see here). To sum up a very odd dream, I pretty much got fired from the job because I wouldn’t hold his baby properly. Rats! We decided we needed to make our intern dreams a reality by making a series of costumes for Halloween based on his show, my former “co-workers” if you will, starting with Jimmy and the Roots, the legendary band who performs on the show. Luckily, these adorable ladies were game to step in on the sax, drum, and clarinet/piano to accompany Little Jimmy (complete with a bandage on his fingers. Jimmy Fans, you know what I’m talking about). ROOTS-COSTUMES-FOR-HALLOWEEN-PLAYING-INSTRUMENTS THE-ROOTS-HALLOWEEN-COSTUME
