17 inspiring illustrators to follow on Instagram

Inspiring Illustrators to follow on Instagram

I LOVE following illustrators on Instagram, especially ones whose work is full of color and charm. They add such a wonderful dose of inspiration and whimsy to my day. Through Instagram I’ve been able to identify some new favorites. The following is a round up of some who bring a smile to my day. Though there are many many more that I love but I love that these feeds are filled mostly with their illustrations with a touch of their life. Enjoy!

Lars Book Club: The Artist’s Mother printable quote

mother's day quote on The House That Lars Built illustrated by Jordan Sondler Mother's Day quote illustrated by Jordan Sondler for The House That Lars Built

Hey-o! Just popping in to see how you’re doing with this month’s book club book, The Artist’s Mother. It’s more of a visual catalogue of pictures and paintings by some of the most iconic artists, but it goes into some details about their mothers.

From here on out we’ll be featuring a quote that you can print off for free (download here) from each Book Club in the middle of each month as illustrated by a guest illustrator. One of my favorite illustrators, , is kicking it off with this one:

“The eyes of a mother are the first mirror we encounter. A good mother provides a true reflection.”

We’ll be going over the book at the beginning of next month and introducing the book for June then as well.

For our Halloween vanitas party (read up about it here and here), we had gorgeous Menu cards illustrated by Danielle Kroll, whose work I just die over (pssst: she has a line of products at Anthropologie like this and lovely prints in her shop!).
And today she’s provided a template that you can print off yourself for your own Halloween party. Click here to get a blank menu!

Printable Halloween party invitation

For our Vanitas Halloween party (check out the full explanation of our theme here) we recruited the talented Danielle Kroll to design an invitation. We wanted something that was both beautiful yet a tad creepy and I love what she came up with. I think it really captured the feel of our event. We printed it off on an off-white card stock.

Illustrated flowers: the app

Hooray! I finally get to reveal a fun project I’ve been working on. On Friday, a brand new app called STUDIO was released in the Apple Store with an illustrated pack by yours truly. I had been wish listing making an app for awhile so I was thrilled to be asked to contribute. The app is quite fantastic. It’s like Photoshop in that you can work with graphics and add overlays to photos or what not. AND, you can also borrow elements from any user and apply it to your own designs. I’ve been using it for a few days and it’s so fun to try out new designs. PLUS, you can add it onto Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or whatever.
So what did I do? I created a pack of illustrations with the Flowers theme. Shocking right? I did a few for you right here as a backdrop to my profile to give you an idea of what they look like. You can change the shape and size to truly make it your own, but here I left it black and white and put it behind my picture.

I have found that the app allows me to play with different design elements and practice being a good graphic designer. If you wanted to, you could even design a poster or card or something and send it to your email and print it off or something. Easy squeezy.
