This week

This week, Mom and I returned from a delightful trip to Provence where we hopped from village to village searching for our dream home. We found plenty to keep us happy. I’ll be writing more about that soon including our fave villages and places to stop. We were especially delighted with the ice cream (Mom loved the citron and I loved their chocolate orange). Wednesday we spent the day at a practice and dress rehearsal of the brand-new ballet, The Golden Cock, by the Royal Danish Ballet with their incredibly bold and bright sets and costumes, which, you know I loved.

letters home + Life + old-fashioned + telegram / Tuesday, 11 Sep 2012

I’m a little old-fashioned & giveaway winner announced.

These days, I tend to associate the mail box with bills, yet I still get a giddy joy every time I see something in the mail box. When I opened up the box last week, not only did that giddy joy return, but upon further inspection, I started to laugh out loud. As in LOL. My sister had sent me a telegram requesting my immediate return to America. I felt so Elizabeth Bennet for a moment. I did a little research and found out that there’s a company in Australia, Telegram Stop, that sends out telegrams the old-fashioned way. All you do is type in your message, provide the addresses and voila, a couple of days later, your chosen receives an adorable message complete with stops.* Anywhoo, I contacted the company and they have agreed to give Lars readers a 10% discount on all telegrams. Wahoo! Just use the code LARSHOUSE at this site.

Go makes someone’s day! I promise it works!

*Did you know that a “stop” was a way not to pay more for punctuation?! The more you know…

This week

Greetings from Provence! I write this while my mom sleeps. I wonder if she’ll ever wake knowing what she’s been through in the last 4 days. She took the longest flight ever (LAX>Istanbul>CPH) to come visit me all before jumping on a plane to Nice. THEN, after a 3 hour drive through the Southern villages of France (top left photo), we arrived in our little apartment where we are staying for the weekend. Needless to say, I hope she sleeps all day! Our apartment is situated in the Luberon Valley and we are more than thrilled to be here. The colors! The building materials! The temperature! (I speak in exclamation marks far too much). It feels like a dream. I can’t wait to write more about it for you.

This week has been quite eventful. Paul and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary at a little restaurant located in the plaza of the bottom right photo. We had some friends from England come to visit us and we got to do some site seeing including the Little Mermaid (top right). Sunday we visited with Paul’s adorable niece in her darling neighborhood with thatched roof houses (middle right). If you’ve been wondering how I transport my oversized paper flowers around without a car, let me tell you, it takes creativity. And lots of twine, (middle left). (Bottom left), having some fun with the French murals in our little town.

Outfit to Room: 4

In case you live under a rock or fail to subscribe to the same multitude of fashion-related e-mail newsletters that I do, New York Fashion Week is upon us.  So, in an ode to one of my favorite designers, Lauren Moffatt, today’s “Outfit to Room” features a darling look, aptly titled “the Catcher in the Rye Sally” colorblock dress.  The English major in me is geeking out.

Giveaway

I love coming across companies with heart. Heute – Schmidt is a designer sister duo in Germany who create fabric by the yard, bags, kitchen accessories, and jewelry with a graphic twist. They make everything in their workshop. Today they are giving away one of their 100% cotton, handprinted bags. The bag comes with a leather handle and measures 50x70cm. The winner of the bag gets to choose the pattern and color. Personally, I want them all (especially the yellow half circles on the bottom right!).

To enter, head on over to Facebook and “like” The House That Lars Built page then leave a comment below on the blog letting me know. Bonus votes if you help spread the word by sharing it on Twitter or Facebook.

Once you get to Facebook you’ll find a special SECRET giveaway which might have something to do with a little company you might have heard about before specializing in gem stones that starts with an S and ends in warovski. Just sayin….

The fun ends Monday, September 10th and the winner will be announced Tuesday, September 11th. This contest is open to all international applicants.
