DIY hair pinatas

Throw a hair party with some festive pinatas!

On Tuesday evening we were pleased as punch to host the release of Rubi Jones‘ book, The Art of Hair, with a braiding workshop and book signing here at the studio. We knew we needed something punchy and celebratory for the event so we decided to go all out with a brigade of hair-inspired piñatas. Along for the ride are a metallic comb, hair brush, blow dryer, shears (I was corrected that they are not scissors), and hairspray. “But, Brittany, what do I need a brigade of hair-inspired pinatas for?” Friends, the possibilities are endless (and I’m sure you can add to it):

  • braiding party (a la the intro of Full House)
  • treat yo’ self night
  • your salon, your friend’s salon, your wanna be salon (a la, your living room)
  • girl’s night out
  • weekend retreat
  • your bathroom/party room
  • surprise at a friend’s door for a birthday
  • and last but not least, Galentine’s Day party as shown by Kelly Of Studio DIY

You catch the drift.

Well, I’ve combined with Kelly of Studio DIY to complete the hair product brigade with an adorable hair spray complete with an air pouf along with a detailed step by step tutorial. DIY Braiding workshop and book signing with Rubi Jones

Rubi Jones hair braiding workshop at The House That Lars Built

I’m thrilled to be hosting a book signing and DIY Braiding hair workshop to celebrate the release of Rubi Jones‘ book The Art of Hair a Springville, Utah on Tuesday, January 19th from 7-9pm. There is room for only 20 students for the class and then we’ll be opening up to the public for the book signing at 8.

Rubi has put together the most incredible gift bag (over $200 value!) and is really excited to teach you one of the looks she created for her book, so bring a girlfriend, because you both won’t want to miss it. Enjoy light food and drinks and stay for the party and book signing following the workshop. See sign up info below!

Paper garland workshop

Wahoo! I’m so thrilled to announce that The House That Lars Built is now doing monthly workshops at my new studio, Hinterland, and you’re invited to attend! For the month of September I’ll be leading with a paper garland workshop perfect for fall.

I asked the Instagram community what types of workshops you’d like to see and I got a range of class suggestions, which was super helpful. I’d love to hear your thoughts in a comment below too. Please tell me! I’d love to get some good guest instructors in too, so if you have specific suggestions, I’m all ears.

See all the class details below and sign up information below! Seats are limited and tend to sell out fast, so sign up early

Paper flower workshop at Hinterland Studio

Paper flowers by Tiffanie Turner

I’ve been admirer of the whimsical paper flower work of Tiffanie Turner and I was thrilled when we could kick off my new craft workshop series with her at my new workspace, Hinterland Studios. She’s coming in from San Francisco to teach a Rose de Granville paper flower workshop. But first, I have to show off her incredible work.

Tiffanie specializes in oversized realistic paper flowers (see why I love her work?!) and she was granted a residency at the prestigious De Young Museum in San Francisco, which is a big step for the art of paper flowers.

Anthropologie Mother’s Day workshop

Anthro workshop with The House That Lars Built

I hosted a Mother’s Day workshop at Anthropologie last week and had a ball. Thanks for having me! I came to find out that over 600 people were on the waiting list (yikes!) so I felt lucky to have such a great group of crafters. We made the Mother’s Day cards that I created for the Anthro blog and Lars as illustrated by Danielle Kroll with, of course, some a paper flower bouquet. I’m always amazed at how different everyone’s work turns out.
