Becoming: Meta Coleman

If you’re just joining in, for the month of January we were inspired to change up our content for the month to focus on women who we find inspiring and can tell us about their journey of “becoming” based on our Book Club book of the month by Michelle Obama. You can read the rest of the interviews here. Stay tuned for many more!

Stylist and interior designer, Meta Coleman, is a dear friend of mine and Jasper’s self-appointed godmother (Mormons don’t really do godmothers, but at the same time…we totally do…ha!). We met 6 years ago when I first moved to Utah and we’ve been inseparable ever since teaching workshops on cruises, working on books, planning parties. Meta is completely OBSESSED with interiors. It’s her job and she’s mighty good at it for that reason. She lives and breathes it. She is one that stays true to who she is no matter if it’s in style or not. She aims for authenticity over trite and for this reason, her style is unique yet timeless. She’s always trying to push boundaries too so that she and her clients don’t stay static and look like every other Pinterest house. As a friend and colleague, she pushes me to be better at what I do. I received a number of requests to feature her and I’m so glad. She’s one of a kind!

Becoming: Laura Harmon

If you’re just joining in, for the month of January we were inspired to change up our content for the month to focus on women who we find inspiring and can tell us about their journey of “becoming” based on our Book Club book of the month by Michelle Obama. You can read the rest of the interviews here. Stay tuned for many more!

When we moved to Provo, Utah about 6 years ago now (what?!?! VERY difficult to believe I’ve lived here longer than any other place in my adult life), a new shop had opened, Harmony. It’s a quilt, knitting, and adorable gift shop on Center Street in an old Pioneer home. It’s owned by Laura Harmon and her daughter Rachel, and run by their various family members. It’s very much the definition of a family-run business. For a culture known for its generations of crafty, scrappy, hard-working women, Harmony both elevates and has become an important community for makers. I find myself visiting for no reason at all, just because I like the idea that I could make something from their lovely array of fabrics. Many a Lars projects have come from this one of a kind shop.

Today we’re talking with the owner Laura, mother of 8, chic, classy, and kind. I love stopping in, hoping that she’s around so I can soak in her character. There isn’t a more lovely soul!

You can read the rest of the interviews here. Stay tuned for many more!

I’ve been a big Justina Blakeney fan for years. I admire her focus and drive in creating the beautiful home furnishings and interiors brand, Jungalow, which brought the re-advent and modernization of the bohemian style. She’s smart, talented, and on a mission to bring good design to the world! I’m constantly learning from her as a person, business person and artist, shop owner, and author. One of the things I admire most about her is how she has figured out what she wants and works her rear off to make it happen. For example, she sets time aside every day to work on becoming a better illustrator and artist showing me how you just have to make time to improve. Without further ado…
