The sun has come to mean much more to me after living in Scandinavia where the winters last for so long. I find myself soaking it the last rays of summer for as long as I can before it goes into it’s annual hibernation. You just don’t know when it will resurface again and every year I’m certain it just won’t return. Three years of living in near permanent cold will do that to you.
This year we’re throwing an Lingering Summer feast to celebrate the lingering summer with some gorgeous new copper pieces from Crate and Barrel, one of my go-to places for beautiful home decor and entertaining pieces.
Copper is my metal of choice for fall but, like most metallics, works as a neutral for so many occasions and spaces. We used copper as the red thread of the party and spread it throughout the setting in the form of copper trays, bowls, cheese boards, cups, utensils, and of course, some DIY ornamentation that we just have to add in.
For the menu, I envisioned a feast from the harvest, one that really took advantage of the fruits and veggies of the season. I bought a variety of trays and boards to set my harvest on including the Beck cheese board, Orb copper tray, Keaton round tray and oval tray. We made some Scandinavian open-faced sandwiches with a variety of beautiful and yummy veggie combinations, which was my main staple back in Denmark.
I got the copper beverage tub, which is my dream tub (have you ever seen such a gorgeous piece for bevvies?!) and some copper cocktail cups for drinks, along with the Beck tiered server perfect for our blueberry galettes (and yes, they were delicious).
I envisioned a little outdoor retreat where we could cozy up as the weather gets a tad colder so we created a canopy out of fabric and an embroidery hoop and collected a variety of pillows and layered rugs in pinks and blues as these colors go so well with copper.
We made some paper fan garlands to string from the canopy along with some geometric copper straw mobiles. They were so cheap and easy to make and added instant impact.

Celebrating the last rays of summer never felt (and tasted!) so good!
