This project is straight from Craft the Rainbow, in honor of our two-year anniversary! In many ways, Craft the Rainbow is a little encapsulation of everything we produce at Lars; bright, fun crafts that are approachable for any skill level. We just want people to get crafting and revel in the benefits of creating pieces that are artful. And especially in these at at home times! We especially love crafts that are made of paper like these paper weavings, which are a simple version of traditional weavings but a fraction of the cost and time!
Materials:
DIY Paper Weaving
This Paper Weaving Craft is so simple, yet easy to customize in any way that your creativity takes you! Slips of paper are woven together to make pretty, colorful patterns that can be framed or collaged into bigger pieces. Paper crafts are our favorite, so we were excited to release this craft out of Craft the Rainbow. We have used this technique before, to create placemats and gift wrap, but there is something so pleasing about creating a simpler weave in keeping your hands and creativity busy.
Magazine paper weavings
If you want to make your paper craft EXTRA exciting and more earth friendly, we highly recommend creating weaving slips from magazines or photos, and weaving them against solid colors to create a staggered image. You can totally try it with anything you have lying around! We took photos from magazines that featured a lot of texture and detail in the picture, to really pop against solid colors in the same color scheme.
TIP: We added some washi onto the borders so that it would adhere the strips together and create a border!
How you choose to weave is up to you! Whether it be with pictures, solids on solids, or other textures mixed in, this Paper Weaving Craft is sure to create something artful. Simple crafts are so satisfying, and we find the motions of weaving to be relaxing, perfect for taking your mind off of the crazy things going on right now.
Craft the Rainbow Book
The act of crafting is an outlet for creativity when it feels like we don’t have a lot of control at all, especially during social distancing. Take some time today to just focus on producing a paper craft! And don’t forget to check out Craft the Rainbow, since April is almost up! We are loving this month of celebrating such a big milestone, and we want to share it with you as much as we can. We think this paper craft will make you want to try even more!
