Bias Tape Weaving Pillow

We loved our DIY Bias Tape Weaving so much that we knew we had to make something with it! The trick was deciding exactly what to make with it. After much deliberation, the Bias Tape Weaving Pillow was born! This eye-catcher is the perfect puff to grace your couch this summer. In punchy colors, it adds a splash of color and an interesting texture. It would look equally lovely in muted shades for a more subdued look. Just pick your palette, whip out some bias tape using our tutorial, and get weaving!

Bias Tape Weaving Pillow

Materials:

• 1.5 yards of three different colored woven fabrics + an additional piece of 21.5″x21.5″ fabric for the backing of the pillow
• 25 mm Bias tape maker
• Iron
• Rotary blade and cutting mat
• Fusible Interfacing
• Pins
• Sewing Machine
• 20″x20″ pillow insert 
• Needle and Thread

Instructions:

1. Start off by making 1-inch bias tape in all three fabric colors using the whole 1.5 yards. Then create your weaving, ensuring that it is the height and width of your pillow plus 1.5 inches extra for seam allowances. We used a 20″x20″ pillow so our weaving was 21.5″x21.5″. See our tutorial here to learn how! *You can also use pre-made bias tape, and choose your desired width of bias tape for your pillow.
2. Once you’ve created your weaving to the needed height and width, cut out a piece of 21.5″x21.5″ fusible interfacing. Place the interfacing square on the backside of the weaving and fuse with a hot iron. The interfacing will keep the weaving in place and make sewing your pillowcase much easier.
3. After you’ve fused the interfacing to the weaving, cut around the interfacing, removing the excess bias strips.
4. Pin the weaving to the pillow packing, right sides together, and sew around 3 sides of the pillow, leaving one side open to stuff the pillow insert in.
5. Sew the 3 sides with a 5/8″ seam allowance, backstitching at the beginning and end.
6. Turn the pillowcase right-side-out, insert the pillow, and hand-stitch the remaining open side closed with a blind stitch, good tutorial here!
7. We finished our pillow off with handmade yarn pom-poms, using the largest size of these makers!
