I, sometimes embarrassingly, inherited the gene that requires me to go all out for every holiday, whether it’s important or not. That gene has had to take a back seat in recent years since becoming a mom to two active boys (who I swear will be the death of me). I know a lot of you share in this frenetic stage of life. This holiday season has definitely been one of those times. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find out about nora fleming. Have you heard of them? So, today, I’m sharing 4 tips to keep the holidays festive yet simple.

How it works

The stoneware

I’ve been decorating for the holidays for as long as I can remember and honestly, my heart has plummeted when I realized that as a mom it was near impossible to do as much as I wanted to. Well, I’m all about finding meaningful yet simple ways of celebrating, which is why nora fleming really spoke to me. As I was familiarizing myself with their beautiful products, I noticed how clean and simple the shapes and styles of the stoneware are and how they come in a myriad of options–platters, dishes, bowls, you name it. The neutral pieces are a great way to collect key pieces, kind of like a capsule wardrobe, but for the table. I’m always in search of entertaining pieces because there’s always something to be celebrating! 

The minis

Now, this is where it gets fun. Once you have your key stoneware pieces, it’s time to accessorize with the minis. They’re made out of stoneware and come in a delightful array of themes–New Year’s, Christmas, Valentines, birthday. It’s the grown up version of a charm bracelet. You can collect one or two here and there to grow your collection. Tips for a simple yet festive holiday

With the onslaught of festivities right now, I got a little ahead of the game and created three tablescapes. One for Christmas, one for New Year’s, and one for Valentine’s Day. Using my nora fleming stoneware, let me share some ways to make each festive yet simple.

1. Easy accessibility–For my Christmas spread,I focused on the things I can easily find at a grocery store. I feel like poinsettias are often seen as dated, but I found some beautiful faded ones at Trader Joe’s that fit in perfectly with the colors of my Christmas tablecloth. Instead of leaving them in the foil wrapper, I cut them off and put them in individual vases and spread them down the table.
   1. Tip:  My mom told me there’s a trick to keeping them poinsettias alive longer–burn the ends. I didn’t get a chance to try it, but now I’m curious! 
2. Use items around you. For all three spreads, I foraged some branches, one of my favorite cheap tricks, and put on some simple shapes that I cut out of paper as ornaments. Like the nora fleming concept, this is something you could use for every holiday.
3. Re-purpose items. The ornaments I hung on the Christmas branch are the ornaments I used on my Christmas tree. Two birds with one stone! 
4. Tableware that works for all holidays. I’m going to add in nora fleming–it deserves its own spot in the line up. With the key stoneware pieces and the minis on top, it’s a great way to be prepared for all of life’s big (and small!) events.
