Call all your friends, because we’re about to show them how to fiesta (the right way). Cinco de Mayo stands for celebration. Here in the studio, we honestly don’t know how to celebrate without color–and lots of it. Bright lipstick, authentic food, and decorative skirts; pair these with a selection of handmade papel picados and Joss & Main dinnerware and decor, and you’ll have a fiesta to rival the celebrations of the Battle of Puebla!
Joss & Main asked us to throw a Cinco de Mayo party, and we never turn down a good party! So, sit back, relax (with a Coca-Cola), and see how to create the brightest fiesta celebration in this century.
Of course I wanted our Cinco de Mayo party to be fun and bright but overall, delicious! I brought in my friend Natalie Nielson of Bees Knees Recipes to create the menu for the event and she absolutely NAILED it! Check this one: shrimp tacos, dulce de leche passion fruit cake, topped with cantaloupe agua fresca with mint
I created some floral centerpieces and stuck them in fun tin cans that I found at the Mexican grocery store here in town, which is a ball to shop in. We also made homemade papel picado streamers (more on that soon!) and for the drinks.
This passion fruit dulce de leche cake from Bees Knees was OUT OF THIS WORLD! My friend Nassari of Flor de Luz provided a lot of the clothes for us. She goes to Mexico City a number of times a year to find all the gorgeous pieces for her shop.
As you know, I love dinnerware and kitchen accessories and the bright colored pieces were crucial for our party. I used a combination of blues, pinks, yellows, and greens as the palette.
Pink serving bowl | mini yellow Le Creuset | small turquoise bouillon cup | yellow lemongrass napkin | Striped dish cloths | au gratin dish | yellow salt and pepper shakers | footed serving bowl | pink serving platter
I fell in love with the chairs and love the breezy vibe they added to the party. I’m even more glad to have them for the summer for some outdoor parties!
