There’s something so special about giving a handmade gift for Father’s Day. In a world of novelty socks, grilling gadgets, and last-minute gift cards, a thoughtfully crafted keepsake feels refreshingly meaningful. That’s why we created our newest Father’s Day Tin Embossing Templates for The House That Lars Built Shop—a simple project that results in a gift Dad will treasure for years to come.
If you’re new to tin embossing, prepare to fall in love.
Tin embossing is one of those rare crafts that looks incredibly impressive while being surprisingly approachable and simple. Using a thin sheet of metal and a stylus, you’ll create raised designs by tracing and shaping the surface. The finished result has the charm of an heirloom artifact—something that looks as though it could have been passed down through generations.
And for Father’s Day, we wanted to create templates that felt both classic and personal.

Why We Love Tin Embossing
I’ve said it before, but tin embossing might be one of my favorite crafts of all time.
Unlike many paper crafts that are beautiful but temporary, embossed metal has a permanence to it. It feels substantial in your hands. Every line you press into the metal becomes part of the final design, creating texture, dimension, and character.
There’s also something wonderfully meditative about the process. As you slowly trace each line, you’re fully present with the material. It’s repetitive in the best possible way—relaxing, creative, and satisfying.
The finished projects feel handcrafted without looking homemade. That’s a difficult balance to achieve, which is why tin embossing continues to be one of our favorite techniques to teach.

- Printable Father’s Day tin embossing templates
- Aluminium rolls
- Ballpoint pens
- Dotting stylus
- Felt or fabric square
- Tape
- Hole punch
- All supplies linked in one spot
Instructions
- Print your template and tape it to your metal sheet (aluminum flashing or craft foil works beautifully).
- Trace the design using a stylus or even a ballpoint pen.
- Place your metal on a soft surface (like felt or a mousepad), then begin pressing into the lines to create dimension.
- Flip it over occasionally to refine details and add depth.
- Cut out your shape, if needed, and finish with ribbon or backing for cards.
- It’s a forgiving process—imperfections only add to the charm.
- For the frame, use a craft knife to cut out the rectangle opening. Add a photo to the back with glue or tape.
Creative Ways to Make It Your Own
One of our favorite parts of this craft is how customizable it is. Once you’ve embossed your design, you can:
- With the fish design, the idea was to add it to a ribbon like a medal, or it could be turned into a garland
- The prize ribbon would be great hung up on the wall or office
- The king of dads would be great given like a greeting card in an envelope
- You could even dress them all up with some acrylic paint or paint pens.
No two pieces will ever look exactly the same—and that’s exactly the point!
Father’s Day Gifts That Tell a Story
When designing these new Father’s Day templates, we wanted to create something that could become a meaningful keepsake rather than just another holiday craft.
Our centerpiece design features a decorative frame with “Dad” at the center, surrounded by charming imagery that celebrates the things many fathers love: adventure, hobbies, family traditions, and time spent together. The frame design also leaves plenty of room for personalization.
Kids can write a special message on the back, add their name and the year, or even create multiple pieces over the years to document their changing handwriting and artistic abilities.
Imagine pulling out a collection of embossed Father’s Day keepsakes twenty years from now and seeing the progression of your children’s creativity. Those are the kinds of gifts that become family treasures.

A Craft Kids and Adults Can Make Together
One of the things we love most about this project is how adaptable it is for different ages.
Younger children can help trace larger sections of the design and participate in decorating the finished piece. Older kids can complete the entire project independently and take pride in creating something truly beautiful for Dad.
And let’s be honest—many adults end up enjoying the process just as much as the kids.
We’ve seen countless people discover tin embossing through one project and immediately start brainstorming what they can make next. Holiday ornaments, framed artwork, gift tags, bookmarks, and decorative plaques are just the beginning.
Father’s Day simply happens to be the perfect excuse to try it.
How to Display Your Finished Piece
Once your design is complete, there are so many ways to showcase it.
Frame it as artwork for Dad’s office or workshop. Attach a ribbon and turn it into a hanging ornament. Mount it onto a wooden plaque for a more rustic look. Or simply present it as a stand-alone piece that can sit on a shelf or desk.
The metallic finish catches light beautifully, making even simple designs feel elevated and special.

The Gift He’ll Keep
The best Father’s Day gifts aren’t always the most expensive ones. More often, they’re the gifts that capture a moment in time.
A handmade project carries evidence of the person who made it—their effort, their creativity, and the thoughtfulness behind it. That’s what makes these embossed keepsakes so meaningful.
Years from now, Dad probably won’t remember which tie he received or which gadget was popular that year. But he will remember the handmade metal plaque created by his child, complete with slightly imperfect lines and a heartfelt message scratched onto the back.
Those imperfections are what make it priceless.
So gather your metal sheets, print out our new Father’s Day Tin Embossing Templates, and spend an afternoon creating something beautiful together. It’s a simple craft, a meaningful gift, and perhaps the beginning of a new family tradition.
Happy Father’s Day and happy embossing!
