Little Women (2019)
Say no more. I mean really we could just stop right here and I’d be completely satisfied with a Christmas night in and Little Women. The classic American novel by Louisa May Alcott is written about a close knit family, and follows the four March sisters in their individual journeys through sisterhood. Characterized by strong and emotional performances, Little Women is an endearing coming of age movie for all audiences.
White Christmas
There’s just something about vintage Christmas that’s so dreamy and romantic. White Christmas is no exception! A bright and exciting musical, White Christmas dazzles with singing, dancing and saving a small town inn. The movie was produced in color, during the height of the film industry’s transition from black and white to color pictures. One of several Bing Crosby holiday movies, you’ll be able to enjoy hearing that pleasant, familiar voice on the big screen!
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)
The year I was in kindergarten, my teacher gave us “reindeer food” to take home and sprinkle on the lawn so that Santa’s reindeer would know where to land. Naturally, I tried staying up all night to see Santa arrive, and when I woke up in the morning the reindeer food was mysteriously gone! I was sure the most famous reindeer of all had saved Christmas once again. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer taught me everything I needed to know about courage, friendship and Christmas! Relive the original winter tale with friends and family this holiday!
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is an award-winning illustrated novel by Charlie Mackesy. Made into a film adaptation, it also has its own documentary following the making of the book and the film! With the essence of winter and bedtime stories, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is a touching story about friends, home and belonging. It’s a warm addition to the best movies to watch for Christmas!
The Polar Express
I don’t know why, but trains always make it feel like winter somewhere. And so does Josh Groban. Lucky for you, the Polar Express has both! I dream about the hot chocolate in the Polar Express, and I don’t think I’m alone. The Polar Express hot chocolate scene has over a million views on YouTube! Experience Christmas from a child’s eyes and embark on a magnificent train ride to the North Pole!
Elf
I don’t know if there’s any Christmas movie more popular than Elf. I mean, an elf from the North Pole being reintroduced into modern society? What’s not to love? Buddy the elf is understandably awkward and unconventional, but has a big heart that radiates the spirit of Christmas. Hilarious and a charming twist on Santa’s helpers, Elf remains one Christmas’ most popular family films.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)
Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas is a holiday staple. The Grinch has been played and voiced by different actors down through the years, but the message remains the same: that gifts are not the most important part of Christmas! Determined to get rid of Christmas once and for all, the grinch hatches a plot against the citizens of Whoville. Green and menacing with his sidekick dog Max, will the grinch successfully steal Christmas? Winning a Grammy for Best Soundtrack for Children, this is your chance to sing along to “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” in true Christmas form.
Klaus
Ever wonder why Santa makes toys? Or how he takes care of all those Christmas lists in the mail? Klaus has all the answers! A cute and comical take on Christmas gifts from Santa, Klaus delivers an uplifting message about Christmas and the spirit of giving. 19th century Norway will sweep you away, to discover the maker behind the toys and the joys they can bring to Christmas.
Fiddler on the Roof
A classic and critically acclaimed musical, Fiddler on the Roof debuted as a Broadway show and was later adapted into a film after much success. It was the longest running musical on Broadway until it was surpassed by Grease in 1974. Reb Tevye is the “fiddler on the roof”; a milkman who juggles responsibilities of faith, family and tradition. Catchy numbers capture the great character and personalities of Tevye, his wife Golde, and their five daughters, who are eager to explore life beyond the walls of their small village.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
I became obsessed with these books after I was introduced to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It is the second book in a series of seven, written by C.S. Lewis in the 1950’s. In most adventure stories, we usually get a single hero or heroine, so I love that The Chronicles of Narnia is about four siblings and their journey together to Narnia. Secret wardrobes, magic kingdoms and white witches, Narnia is full of action – with no shortage of winter in the frozen woods!
Home Alone
Kevin’s parents have mistakenly left on a trip to Paris without him, leaving him to believe that his wishes have come true after all, with a house all to himself. Things quickly go awry as Kevin finds two burglars have planned to rob the house while his parents are away. Clever, mischievous and smooth, Kevin finds ways to best the burglars and save Christmas from theft! A much needed laugh, Home Alone is entertaining and witty as far as Christmas goes!
