March Book Club poster and bookmark

Helloooo readers! We’re well into March (and spring!) and hope you’re enjoying A Big Important Art Book: Now With Women! Has it opened your eyes to the art women have made and ARE making all over the world? Pretty amazing, right? We’ve got some questions below and fabulous art print for you! This month, our poster and book mark were illustrated by one of our favorite artists, Australian artist and designer, Beci Orpin, who leads the way in collage art and bright and quirky products and illustrationgs (pssst–you HAVE to check out her new portfolio site. It’s a piece of art!) We’ll be featuring an interview with Beci on Sunday, so stay tuned!

Beci illustrated a quote from fine artist, Bobbie Burgers, that reads “be willing to destroy” because we all should be, no?!

Book Club discussion questions

A Big Important Art Book: Now with Women!

  1. After reading so many short biographies about these women artists, we realized so many of them started on a different path, but ended up in their particular creative, unplanned pursuit. German-American artist Nike Schroeder states, “Every mistake, or “failure,” is just part of the journey, leading you somewhere that might be more exciting than your original plan.” Do you believe that? Has it happened to you?
  1. Author Danielle Krysa remarks in one artist’s bio that, “…in order to figure out where you’re going, you should know what came before you.” How has every woman in this book done that—and then progressed further? Does this (or Krysa’s fun project ideas in each chapter) inspire you to do the same?
  1. “Arrive vulnerable. Leave empowered.” / “Your work of art is born out of the struggle with yourself.” / “My work is never finished.” / “Believe in yourself—and KEEP WORKING!” / These are just a handful of the pages and pages of wise advice found in this book! Did a certain artist’s thoughts or statements resonate with you? Please share, we’d love to hear your thoughts!
