One day I find myself wishing to see the green grass again underneath all the snow, and then the next day it seems, I find myself writing about the 4th of July?! Where does all the time go?? Well, summer is indeed on its way – and so are the parades, fireworks and outdoor fun. But most importantly when thinking about Independence Day, we cannot forget the festive treats to make for the 4th of July! When I reminisce about the 4th of July I always think about the food and those special treats that only seem to come around once a year. But don’t just take my word for it. Dig in!
Berry lemonade popsicles
Popsicles are a MUST. When I was young I lived near the California desert, and have also spent a couple summers in Texas. Popsicles became my best friend and totally got me through those triple digit summers when the heat felt absolutely unbearable. Berry lemonade popsicles are perfect for the 4th of July, with festive colors to keep you cool! There’s also plenty more where that came from if you want to explore more frozen treats try Rainbow of popsicles!
DIY Floral Ice Cubes for the Fourth
No better way to stay hydrated than with fun DIY Floral Ice Cubes for the Fourth. You don’t even need fancy schmancy drinks to show off these ice cubes – just add water! Themed + temperature appropriate treats = a match made in heaven. This requires several freeze cycles to get the suspended-in-water effect, but well worth the effort!
Pineapple boat with sorbet
The steps to making this seaworthy vessel of frozen goodness Pineapple boat with sorbet are easy peasy. Just carve out the pineapple, and add in the scoops and top it off with some of your favorite goodies. That sentence alone has me drooling. I kid you not. I also love a good sorbet when my poor lactose impaired system has reached its dairy threshold haha.
Kiwi mint lime sorbet float
To float or not to float? That is the question. (To float of course!) Catch me with a Kiwi mint lime sorbet float, drifting down a lazy river on an inner tube. *chefs kiss*. This ones for the bubbly lovers if you love to switch up the texture with a little carbonation in your drink. Mint is so refreshing with a tropical twist and fizzy combo!
DIY Kids Charcuterie Board
Charcuterie boards have become all the rage in recent years, and I think their popularity almost goes without saying. Make your own? Mix and match? Affordable & creative? I think you get the picture. Even if this is a DIY Kids Charcuterie Board, I wouldn’t put it past me to sneak a few nibbles from their table. I have a close friend who likes to nibble as well and he says, “I’m a grazer, I can’t help it!”
Watermelon lime lemonade
When you see these three fruits in a sentence, you know it’s gonna be good. No rocket science, just some yummy fruits and a recipe away from Watermelon lime lemonade. There is nothing like fresh fruit drinks on a hot summer afternoon. Pull up a chair, indulge in a cool breeze and sip away!

Homemade heart marshmallows
I think in my heart of hearts (pun intended), smores might be one of my favorite summer traditions. I know this is about marshmallows, but I took the liberty of assuming that any Homemade heart marshmallows audience would be agreeable to smores. Am I wrong? Am I daydreaming of roasting them over a 4th of July campfire? Yes. Yes I am.
Rainbow Pies
Honestly, what could be more American than pies? I think my personal favorite is blackberry pie – which is what my Grandma always made! In Rainbow Pies Lars presents an ode to pies of every color and flavor. The 4th of July is the perfect time for pies – it’s a great treat that shares well with crowds! Get inspired by red, white and blue or try a new style if you’re feeling brave!
Mini baked donuts
The cutest hors d’oeuvres for the 4th of July, Mini baked donuts! I’m always trying to find alternative ways to substitute foods I love with healthier options, and I’d say these donuts do a decent job! They’re not fried and have no processed sugars, so a win-win there. They’re even color coordinated for the 4th of July!
