DIY apple brown bags

DIY apple lunch sack

Many of you are heading back to school this week. After a summer of lots of heat even I’m tempted to head back into a classroom with blasting A/C! We came up with a cute way to make the first day of school special: DIY apple lunch sack. It’s super easy and a fun way to get into the season. I’ve found them to be cute gift idea too for teachers or just for friends. And, because it’s Thursday,we have a cute video to go with it up on our YouTube Channel (have you subscribed yet?!).

DIY Scandinavian paper mobile

Scandinavian Paper mache flower mobile
by Lars contributor Kathryn Godwin of Studio Cultivate
The bloom of color and flowers from Spring to Summer is just magical, if you take time to really watch it. Combined with the whimsy that any hanging element brings to a room, I was interested in exploring bringing the two together. I’ve long been inspired by the mobiles of Kiki Smith and Alexander Calder, from their lightness, balance and use of color. I wanted to create a mobile that combined Scandinavian floral patterns with the simple beauty of mobiles.

9 inspiring paper artists to follow on Instagram

9 inspiring paper artists to follow on Instagram

As you might be aware by now, I LOVE working with paper. I love everything about it. I love that paper is not supposed to make shapes. It’s flat and you’re only supposed to write on it. Right?!

NOPE! There are some amazingly inspiring paper artists who break the 2D mold and make magic out of nothing. Here’s a round up of some of my favorite paper artists to follow on Instagram.

Happy weekend!

DIY paper maidenhair fern mobile

DIY paper maidenhair fern mobile

by Corrie Beth Hogg of Apple of My DIY

A few years ago I visited the redwood forests in northern California for the first time, my friend and I spent hours hiking amongst the large boughs and trunks, it was magical and inspirational! One of my favorite memories is this steep rock face we found that was completely covered in maidenhair ferns. I love how delicate and expressive they are. I’m smitten. I’ve tried to capture those qualities here in paper with this mobile, it is so light, it’s constantly twisting and turning in the slightest breeze. You only need a few supplies to make this – super easy if you have a paper cutting machine, but you can cut by hand as well.DIY paper maidenhair fern mobile Read on →

DIY paper medinilla plant

diy-paper-medinilla

I’ve been a huge fan of Fideli Sundquist‘s paper art work for a number of years now. She creates the most impeccably beautiful vignettes out of paper cuttings. They’re drool-worthy. Such precision! I anxiously bought her book, I Love Paper, and was thrilled to find out that she recently released another book, Paper Garden. Unfortunately, Paper Garden is only available in Swedish at the moment. I asked her if she’d be willing to share one of the projects with you in English and she generously agreed. Hooray! I selected one of my favorites from the book, the medinilla. I’d love to have a medinilla in real life, but this paper version is just as delightful.

See how to make it below!
