At some point in the history of blogging, donuts became king. And National Donut Day became its Christmas.

SO, in true blogger form, Happy National Day! May you eat all the frosted, sprinkled, fried dough in the shape of a ring that you can. And if you’re not in the US, may donuts be in your future at some point in life. Or I’ll come to you and bring you some. I’d like that very much.

ME made us some #CraftTheRainbow donuts. Get the full recipe below!

And if you’re needing to really get in the spirit of National Donut day, here are some fun links for your weekend:

Recipe adapted from Joy the Baker

makes about 8 baked donuts

1 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

1/3 cup granulated sugar

3 tablespoons unsalted butter (but we’ll only use 2 tablespoons of browned butter for the recipe)

1 large egg

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 350
2. Generously spray donut pans
3. Brown butter in a pot on the stove by cooking at a medium heat until it starts to look slightly brown and smell nutty.
4. Mix all wet ingredients
5. In separate bowl mix all dry ingredients
6. Combine wet and dry ingredients
7. Using a piping bag, pipe donut batter into pans
8. Bake for 10-12 minutes
9. Decorate like a rainbow!
